well, i have read so much about this i don't know what to do tbh!

the dreaded hal.dll problem. happened about 4 weeks ago, fixed it, re-wrote the boot.ini, did fixmbr etc and copied hal.dll from another system over. this worked then it didnt, then it did. and it booted up fine, came to boot it up today and it errored again! JOY!

any ideas? also my graphics card i sent back to overclockers months again still has the same problem... articfacts everywhere! then all of a sudden they go.. it is very odd. tried diff gfx and that worked fine, but it was a step down so i didn't really want to keep it like that.

o another note, when i do the repair of the hal.dll, windows comes up with an error, i view and send it off and it does say that the problem is to do with the graphics driver/card. naturally i update and reinstall with the lastest one but still happens. it also mentioned turning off the hardware accelerating.. i thought very odd.

so any ideas or suggestions most welcome!! (formatting.. not really an option!)

system is,

barton o/c 2.5Ghz.
thermalight sp-90
coolermaster aero-7

mobo- asus A7n8x deluxe
ram - atm- 2gb patriot and 512mb corsair xms 3200. both are 3200

hd- system is on 80gb IDE
with another 10gb ide on same cable

then 250gb sata
and another 80gtb sata

gfx- winfast 6800 TDH -(the stock one)

o/s windows XP media center 2005
i think that's all you need!

if your gfx card is artifacting and you're having problems with missing or corrupt files I'd suggest it might be your power supply on it's way out. It sounds like it's struggling to provide enough power to run your system (especially overclocked).

that would make a lot of sense!

it's only a 350W PSU! think i'll get a new one!!!

thanks lok
