Sup everyone.

I currently have the following rig;

  • Abit IP35 Pro XE MOBO
  • Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0ghz CPU
  • 4GB (2x2gb) Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400 RAM
  • PNY 8800GT (512mb) GPU
  • Corsair HX520w PSU
  • Lian-Li PC-P60 CASE
I have overclocked the CPU to 3.6ghz on stock cooling.
The case is sweet, but maybe overkill, and I am considering selling it (perfect condition) to replace with a cheaper one (Antec 300?).

If this system was yours, how would you "upgrade" it at a reasonable cost? :P

Depends what you want to do with the PC.

If you want to encode videos all day then spend £60 (assuming you can get £90 for your e8400) or so on a Q9450. If you want to play games at higher settings get a new graphics card (gtx260/hd4870). Do you have enough storage space for your needs?

If you don't mind playing games at lower settings and don't encode video, I don't see anything wrong with the machine.

sell your GT to an uncle or something (how much can a 2nd hand GT recoup £ ?) ... upgrade to a more powerful graphics card, whack up the overclock on the cpu to 3.6ghz and your good for way over a year. also just occurred to me what resolution do you play at(screen size)?

maybe something like this

if you a hardcore gamer that's what your system looks ready for. 8800GT to GTX260 '216' is going to be a quite a substantial boost in graphical performance, or even could consider the slightly cheaper 4870 :)

if your not a hardcore gamer dont worry anything i just said :D

Thanks for the tips.

Main reason for upgrade is just to stay upto-date. I had made this machine about 6-8 months ago to play the latest games, but I don't think it was good enough for my resolution (1920 x 1200) as I didn't get the results I expected on Crysis etc.

I guess I'll get a new graphics card as mentioned, and consider another 4GB of ram..

Do you think its worth replacing the Lian Li PC-P60 case with a Antec 300? There's a £100 difference between the 2.. I recently built a rig in an Antec 300 and it was a pretty sweet case. Not MUCH better than my PC-P60. My PC-P60 does keep everything fridge-cool and dust-free though o.O

Gotta say the Antec 300 is a sweet little case, just fits a Noctua CPU cooler and I've just added an AC Twin Turbo cooler to my 4870 and it's gettin a bit tight in there, so if you want anything bigger than that (or crossfire) then it's not for you, but it's plenty cool enough
