I have put a few post's in here over the last few days (thanks to those that replied) But the problems I have is having managed to use the ASR to restore the OS everything seems fine Until I have to reboot the pc for any updates. It is at this point everytihng goes south, all that happens is the splash screen loads up and things look good but then everything stops. I am not able to get it into safe mode as again the System32 files start to load and then all of a sudden evertying stops the CPU is running but no acitivy from the HD?I have run chckdk via dos on the drive and no problems were found.

In essence if I have to reboot or turn the pc off for any reason the OS is lost and I have to ASR all over again.Has anyone got any ideas as to the potential cause?

can you use asr to go further back?

sounds like a corrupt file is breaking the update whilst its trying to update something important.

going further back might fix the file and allow the update to complete

Sorry I should have made myself clearer, the problem is that I fully restore windows but if for what ever reason I have to reboot my pc (maybe to install a programe) it is then that the problems start, ie doesn't wont load it gets half way on the splash screen and then stops end of I thought it could be something to do with the MBR but then again?

Daft question, is it trying to boot into the correct OS on reboot?

At what stage does the computer stop booting, before you get to the Windows logo or before you get to the desktop?

Thanks for the reply. I am trying to boot into the correct OS. it falls over on the splash screen, before it gets to loading windows.Same thing happened again last night had to reboot due to the pc getting locked out and then bang, went through bios boot up into the windows splash screen and stopped. Thing is like I have said chckdsk throws up no errors and when I ASR and get back in everything checks out. Cant be a Malware as it doesnt load into Windows its as though their is a string missing and the OS cannot find the next file to load so gives up.
