I've done some googling on this and all I seem to find is news articles from when they started this early last year. I can see the tariffs listed on the o2 site but can't see anything about the (extra) phone cost. The o2 site even says that you can upgrade to an Iphone 4s if you take a 12,18 or 24 month contract so I assume it's for all phones.

I'm not due an upgrade untill the 26th so I haven't rang them about it yet, I thought I'd ask here if anyone as done this or at least got a 'quote' on a 12 month upgrade.

I'm going to either get an Iphone 4S or a Samsung Galaxy S2. I'm pretty sure I'd be happy with either phone. My thoughts are that if 18/24 month is the only practical way in terms of upfront cost I.E. free, then I'll probably (depending on how I feel on the day:p) get the Iphone 4S. If 12 month upgrades arn't that bad then it might be possible to get the Galaxy S2 on a 12 month without paying a huge amount upfront and being able to upgrade again in 11 months. I'm not expecting to get an Iphone 4S on that contract without paying a huge amount upfront which I wouldn't do.

I'll be getting either a 900min or 1200 min contract so we are talking at least £37/42 a month. I know that will seem a lot to most of you but I like using my phone without any thought of minutes or unexpected big bills. When I was on 600min, I would pay £35 for 2-3 months and then get a bill for £70-100 because it's 35p/min after your allowance, so using 800 min on a 600 min £35 tariff would cost £105 and then at upgrade time, reap the losses of all the money I had paid to them. Looking at the Samsung on 18/24 months, this brings it well within the 'free' bracket. That's why I'm thinking I might be able to shorten it to 12 months without too much upfront cost.

It would be nice if there was no Iphone Vs S2, and no "why do you need 900/1200 min, I only use 100min" discussion

well there wasn't much interest in this thread but thought I'd update anyway. On the 1200 min contract I wanted anyway, the iphone 4s was free on 18 months or £89.99 on 12 months so I went for that. Next upgrade date is boxing day:D
