So just had an email from O2 telling me they will be putting my monthly bill up by RPI 13.9% + 3.9% as set out in my term and conditions. Thank god I’m out of contract and Ive immediately given notice.

I’m sure O2 have done there sums but Christ on a bike ! 17.8%

Get cancelling and go on a sim only.

Not sure where the mobile industry is heading but for the handset manufacturers I predict bleak UK sales.

Most people get a beefy new contract when they get a new phone. But when you're paying 40 or more a 15pc increase is a hell of a lot. These are 36 months plus commonly now too.

More and more people are going to just hold onto their old devices and go sim only.

My lebara is 5ppm so even a 20pc increase is only a pound.

Sim only is going to get much more popular

Or the mobile section in MM.

I take it this is on airtime only ?, O2 used to have 2 payments airtime and device plan. If you can't afford to pay off the device plan and leave ,you could reduce your monthly data allowance to combat the price hike.

No straight 2 year contract .
.
Luckily my 2 year contract expires next month coinciding with the increase - notice duly given today and a pac number received.

£10 a month on 12 month sim only gets me 40GB and unlimited calls and text . That will do and I’ll buy a handset as and when I need one .

But it's in the contract and has been for a few years now so there should be no surprise when they action it. Doesn't make it any less crap but it shouldn't be a surprise.

I think your missing my point .

Contract or not given how high inflation is and RPI at 13.4% they could have as a good will just waived the +3.9 % . Would probably have kept a lot more customers, like I said it’s just greedy .

Given inflation will drop it makes it even worse.

It applies to the whole monthly payment. Even though it shouldn't be on the device portion, it is.
Yep my whole point .

Its a retrospective incresss for a handset that had a fixed cost when the contract was taken out -, it’s doesn’t rise by 17.8% 22 months into the contract.
