I can't seem to view any sites apart from this one, I can't seem to ping things like multiplay or bbc etc.

anyone else got the same?

I'm using O2's DNS right now, whatever the default are.

Edit: 2011-03-07 23:55:46 - No further update from BE, routing to OpenDNS, Rift etc.. still down.

Edit: 2011-03-07 23:29:29 - damn, not even 20 minutes! 3 minutes later it is down again : )

Edit: 2011-03-07 23:27:33 - Problems seem to be solved for the second time. We will keep an eye out for further outages and update this post if so. If you temporarily moved from OpenDNS, you should set your DNS back again now: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 .

Edit: 2011-03-07 23:19:53 - BE have responded with "Please be aware, that currently OpenDNS servers (eg. 208.67.222.222 / 208.67.220.220) do not work on our network. Should you [have these problems], please use our DNS servers - 87.194.255.154 and 87.194.255.155.
The issue is currently being investigated and we will update you as soon as we have any more information."

Edit: 2011-03-07 23:14:01 - Looks like thepiratebay and demonoid are also inaccessible from BE due to the same issue :>

Edit: 2011-03-07 22:44:24 - BE have confirmed they have the problem reports and are investigating. More info if / when we get it.

Edit: 2011-03-07 22:39:42 - Routing just died again a minute ago : (

Edit: 2011-03-07 22:19:23 - OpenDNS, Rift etc.. routing has just returned. Also big awesomeness to Brian from OpenDNS who proactively joined IRC to try and troubleshoot if the issue was within their network. Those of you who changed away temporarily can now set DNS back to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 (unless BE break things again).

Edit: 2011-03-07 22:03:52 - BE have been informed and are investigating but have not formally responded.

Edit: 2011-03-07 21:55:54 - This is looking like a larger problem than just OpenDNS. Testing reveals that BE DNS is also not returning many valid domain resolutions either.

Looks like OpenDNS and possibly other destinations are currently unreachable via BE.

In addition: Rift and imgur are inaccessible.

More info when we get it.
In the mean time if you need DNS servers then 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 for GoogleDNS are still reachable, or of course.. BE's own servers. see note above

Hmm,

Im on Be there too, generally I think they are a fantastic ips.

However the one fly in the ointment is there on going dns issues.

Last time I saw anything regarding dns issues was a couple of months back, but every now and then I come accross a site that is down, and dont know if its the remote site or Be's DNS going funny again.....

I did notice something last night... but just thought it was the remote site.

I have been with Be for a few years now and the only problem i ever have is the DNS going down. It was happening quite often a while ago so i just changed to a differet dns server and have been fine ever since.

Can try with google's DNS to make sure that it is the dns which is the problem

http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/

There have been major problems on BE's/O2's network the past 3-4 days, I couldn't get any connection all last night, couldn't view web-pages etc, same again last Sunday, couldn't view any web-pages etc.

There is a big thread about it on the BE forums

Generally Be's DNS is fast....

Im a bit wary of trying Google DNS... they already harvest enough or our data!

Thats another reason why I dont use chrome. Data harvesting!

So is this a Be/O2 network issue, or is it just a DNS issue?

If its just DNS, just Open DNS or Be DNS.... I have to say between BE and Open DNS, the BE DNS is far faster... but it does suffer from intermitant performance.

I did have issues last night, but i though it was the remote server with the problem.

May aswell try Google DNS... considering I already use Google as my search engine, no point not using their dns, just becuase I dont like their data harvesting misdemeanours.

Ok, after further investigation it seems that the problem I was referring to on Sunday was a similar issue to what we have here, however at the time I did try other DNS servers so that means that Sundays occurrence wasnt just bound to OpenDNS however that is a separate issue.

I have just managed to get on-line now from changing from OpenDNS servers to google's so it does appear to be an OpenDNS issue at this stage.

I have a link I am going to post it in a sec, I am guessing you guys have access to BE forums?

Download speeds are terrible!! I am thinking this is two seperate issues, another BE/BT issue, and OpenDNS issue. As I am still using google DNS servers but my downloads are shocking

103kbps down / 55kbps up

after router reboot

5087kbps down/ 943up

this is usually

19500kbps down / 1450up

On Be. I've been getting some slowdowns at peak times recently, but I don't think I've ever lost connectivity for more than a few minutes. Mind you, I learned a long time ago that DNS servers seem to be a weak link in most ISPs, so I run my own. :)
