Howdy folks,

Had an e-mail today:

You've been with us for a while. To say thanks, you can get a shiny new home broadband router. On us.

It's easy to set up, with a better wifi range. And it'll give you a better-quality connection throughout your home.

To get your hands on one, just give us your details.

My current router is hot stuff so i wont be replacing, but get a free router? YES PLEASE. I am sure i can find a use for it. It says at the bottom 'invitation only' so i have no idea if customers who dont have the e-mail can do this

If O2 operate in the same way as Be the router is leased to you as part of the service and must be returned if you leave them.

Be regularly send out new routers to customers with old models but they're not "free" as you don't get to keep them.

Edit - It is leased to you as part of the service -

"Your O2 wireless box remains the property of O2. We couldn't quite bring ourselves to give them away.
If you decide to cancel O2 Home Broadband or choose not to renew your contract, we'll send you a pre-paid envelope so you can send your O2 wireless box back"

It's also a way for O2 to phase out older models that they may no longer want to support with firmware updates. The original O2 wireless routers were only 802.11B and G the newer models use N standards.

Customer gets better wifi coverage and speed while O2 get newer router firmware on their network, which should make pushing out updates to their routers easier. Everyone wins....that is if the customer uses the O2 router on the line.

Correct. O2 asked for their wireless box back whenever I left them a few years ago. But then I was on their useless access product.
