Finally managed to get a MAC code out of AOL/CPW.

After 10 days waiting I was almost ready to give up, but it arrived in the email this morning.

So I went straight ahead and ordered O2 Ultimate, the up to 20mb package. Line test says my line can in theory give me @19mb so will wait and see.

Anyway, went through all the sign up process online. Entered username, passwords, bank details etc, etc.
Got two text msgs through from them during it to my mobile. First was a welcome to O2, here's your username. Then second was the password.
Upon completion of the order process, I printed everything out and noticed I am supposed to get an order confirmation email from them.

To be honest, the text messages were almost instant but its been 2 hours now and nothing through to the email address I gave.

For those who have signed up recently to O2, is this normal?. Did it take a wee while to receive a confirmation email from them?.

Also, just out of interest, how quickly does the router pack arrive?.

Thanks. Can't wait to finally ditch AOHell.....!!!!. :D

Cheers, nah.....there was just a wee delay.

Have now received 2 emails, one a confirmation email and the other confirming my activation date. Also got two text messages with similar info.

Getting activated on the 17th of Dec, broadband router pack arrives on the 15th ( although going by what I've already read here on the forums, I'll be better sticking with my Netgear DG834 ).

So all in all, I'm a happy bunny so far. Good riddance, AOL!!!! :p

Now I'm curious as to what speeds I'll manage to achieve. Will wait and see. ;)

just beware you might get further delays on the texts.

i had a delay on the activation one but checked the line and it was working okay.

They said my line would be good for 19Mbs, I went for the 16Mbs package and it is always working at full speed. Very impressed with the connection speed even at peak times.

Excellent!!!

Tbh, the ridiculous slowdowns at peak times ( down to less than dial up sometimes ) that I have had with AOHell are the main factor in me moving ISP's, so to hear that you are having no issues at peak time is reassuring. :)

Out of interest do you know the reason why AOL LLU have such chronic slowdown? As suggesting a family move away from them for that reason.

You're not aware of the speed / ping issues with BE/02 then i take it ?

There's a near on 90 page thread about it in the Be forums.

Nope, not aware of it m8.

To be honest, it can't be any worse than the service I've had lately with CPW.

And as far as I can tell, there are many folk happy with O2 running with no issues, so I'll take my chances and see. I can always move somewhere else again. I think every ISP's forums has its fair mix of folk happy/not happy, no matter what provider you go for.

Cheers for the heads up though, I'll have a flick through the thread you mentioned. :)

Draeger I'm sure you'll be fine, especially where you live. If not then O2/Be always seem to be pretty accommodating in letting you leave early if you don't think the service is up to scratch.

Just over 100m as the crow flies according to the DSLZone checker last time I looked. Street and houses where I live are quite new, built approx 8 years ago so I reckon the wiring is in reasonably good nick too.

The checker doesn't seem to be working for me just now though.
