O2 contact coming to an end - what happens?

My O2 contract is due to expire at the start of next month so I've been looking for a new phone to upgrade to. The N95 is the only one that fits my requirements at the moment (currently have a K800i) but I'm unsure if I should pay £129.99 to get it. If I don't get an upgrade and new contract but continue with my current contract, what happens next month? I'm assuming that it will just continue with O2 but will they automatically renew a 12 month contract, or will it be a rolling month by month so that I can cancel it at any time (with 30 days notice) without financial penalty?

It will be the latter AFAIK. If you ring up and upgrade or whatever then you start a new contract which you agree with them.

Whenever a 12/18 month contract comes to an end you automatically move to a "month-to-month" contract.
You'll only find yourself tied to another contract when you actually renew it, take out a new phone etc.

Spooky i just logged on to ask exactly the same question,
my contract is up and in July i currently have a K800i but im waiting for the Iphone, to come out over here, because it will be just my luck i tie myself to a 12 month contract and then find out that the Iphone is launced soon after.

So from the answers on here i will just let my contract roll on and cancel as soon as i can get my hands on apple latest gadget
