o2 contract in Ireland?

Just got a quick question.

I'm planning on moving to Dublin in about 3-4 months. I still have 9 months left on my o2 contract and was just wondering if everything will continue as normal (still be able to use free minutes/texts etc). I know this may be a silly question but want to double check :)

If you currently live outside of Ireland then no, you will not get to use any of your free texts or calls. You will be charged a fortune to make and receive calls and pay about 35p to send a text message. I know this as I live in Belfast and often go down the south. Although Ireland has O2 and Vodafone they are treated as different networks. I ended up buying an o2 (Ireland) PAYG sim card so that I could use that when away as it was much cheaper than using my o2 (uK) contract.

Cheers for the info.

I do currently live in England but might be moving soon due to work. I might have to find out if i can transfer the contract over to the Irish 02. Not holding out too much hope though :)

Doubt it very, very much. Even large networks with huge international presence like vodafone still charge for roaming to use another vodafone network abroad (albeit at a lower rate), so I would be very surprised if they manage to transfer your contract to Ireland.

I'd just wait till the 6 month mark and downgrade to the lowest tariff if you don't want the obvious option of paying off the remaining line rental in one go, which is likely to be the only option of terminating the contract early.
