Hi,

This is technically not "software" related but I though this forum would be the best place for it.

Essentially, I'm in a cheap £15 a month standard o2 pay monthly contract. Expires January 2012.

I have acquired an iPhone 3GS. It is locked to o2 SIM cards only. No problem.

I get no signal, and apparently it's due to the fact that my SIM isn't "iPhone ready" or on a tariff that supports them. Hence no voice/sms capability.

I have spoken to o2, and they have basically said "Pay £10 a month for a bolt on to use it". I can't change contract as I'm still in one so this seems the only way to have it fully working.

Is there any work around? Anyone I can speak to or try and get a deal with? I'm small fry business compared to businesses and such, but I have been with them since they were BT Cellnet.

I can't justify £10 a month for the next year. £120 for the privilege of having calls/sms to my iPhone cannot be justified. It's more convenience really. I can just use it as a Touch device until then and keep my old crappy nokia.

What would you do?

Thanks!

Edit:- In hindsight, maybe the mobile forum would be better..?

I'm pretty sure you should at least get a signal on it and make calls. Best thing before splashing out any money is find someone with an iPhone on o2 and ask them to try their sim in your iPhone just in case its been locked or is faulty.

Thanks guys. Could well be that the phone may be borked. Not to worry, I'm sure I'll think of something.

Could be a lose antena, I'll have to look into it. I don't think I can restore back to factory though, this phone has had some problems.

Worst case scenario I keep my old phone and use it for music, apps, wifi, etc.
