Been with O2 for more than a year and always been delighted with the service for the cost (was on access, been on the standard 8mb LLU for about 10 months) - was getting a solid 6mb all day every day which is all I need, and pretty good considering my distance from the exchange.

In the past couple of weeks though, the connection in the evenings and weekends has been terrible - sub 200k speeds and about 60~70% packet loss.

I dropped them an email to tell them about the problem, explaining that there were no issues with the wireless connection (already checked for channel overlap and tried it on wired), that nothing had changed with the phone line and it was only happnening evenings/weekends so it was obviously a contention issue.

I got a response saying they didn't have any reports of conjestion (didn't I just report it?) so they had changed the channel on my router for me...

Obviously this didn't help so it's still pretty pants, have emailed them back to explain - but with issues like this is it ever worth fighting it out with them? Obviously for £7.50 I can't expect a huge amount, I'm not expecting a dedicated 8mb with a five 9s SLA for that price - I went with them originally because of good reviews.

If its not worth arguing it with them, what's OcUK's ISP of choice at the moment? I don't need frills like AV, Backup, TV, phone calls etc etc and I don't need mega speed, I just want a decent solid connection. More than happy to spend a bit more if it's going to be worth it.

Don't need a massive download allowance - 20gb should be more than enough but something with unlimited overnight downloads would be good. Any suggestions?

Their traffic management system is the cause of the speed problems for Access customers (I don't know if this is what is causing your problems as I can see you are on their LLU product)

I am trying to get away myself even though I am still in contract with them.

As for an ISP what about Zen? 25Gb is £24.26 however I don't think they have off peak downloads.

No traffic management on the LLU and I dont download that much anyway, most of the time I'd probably cope with 10gb but it would be nice to be able to use more.

As I said I don't mind spending a bit more and I know Zen are good, but I don't know if I can justify the increase...

What are BT like these days?

The other option is Eclipse - my sister works there and can get me the Pro package (50gb I think) for the grand price of £0.00 per month, not sure if they're any good though!
