Hi All,

I've recently moved into a new house but a fair bit away from my local exchange. We can get about 4.5Mb/5Mb here.

I've got the choice of either o2 or BE.. As they run on the same network should I just go with the cheapest?

I think o2 monthly limit is 20GB a month whereas BE is 40GB a month (o2 standard/be value). If someone could confirm.

Thanks,

They're both unlimited, both share the same equipment and O2 should be cheaper if you have a mobile phone with them also (or just borrow someone's number who you know is on O2)

Also, O2 provide you with pop3 email accounts if that's important to you.

My brother has his own o2 broadband connection and mobile phone and has got a discount on his broadband. My parents have o2 phones too, i hope they cal also provide me with a discount code :P

Is it LLU or are you using the access pakage?

I use O2 on the LLU package and pay about £7.50 per month unlimited. I was told I could get about 5mb but actually get 8mb with o2. Great upload speed of 1.3mb too. Cant complain for that price.

If its price you want then i think you can call BE and they will price match anything o2 offer.

Be Value is not unlimited, its got a 40GB cap, the other two BE packages are unlimited though.

Personally id go with BE, you have more access to configure and tweak the connection.

Value 40GB isn't sold any more, so he couldn't choose it for a new connection anyway.

I've seen it confirmed on the O2 forums that you can use another persons mobile number to attain discount, so long as you have their permission. Be is more 'techy' i.e. the staff allow you to change SNR if you send them a support ticket (on Value anyway, the other two packages you can change SNR via the members centre), BUT if you buy a modem such as the DG834GT you can configure these options yourself anyway.

Go with O2 would be my recommendation.

It hasnt been implemented yet, but they will be, its in a thread somewhere IIRC, and also mentioned in another thread about what tools they would like members to have access to, a few people were suggesting bandwidth monitiors at it would be useful for people on the 40gb value package when its introduced

I've just read the thread, and it will be implemented soon-ish (there's no specific date yet) and those customers who are currently in contract will not be imposed with the limit unless they renew.

Still, even more reason to go with O2. It's cheaper and looks to stay unlimited for the foreseeable.

It's already been done and gone... 27th April was when Be cancelled that package...

hmmm, I would be inclined to say that O2 have probably got more chance of going rogue with their unlimited packages than BE, as mentioned by BE, they are not planning on touching the other two packages. Plus didnt o2 start throttling and traffic shaping?

I think BE are the more trusting side

I know someone who downloaded 60gig in a day on the cheapest package and no throttling was done. Personally I have never had an issue with them.

Is it BE or O2 that are changing their value package?

Yes my local exchange is LLU enabled for o2 and BE.

No throttling from O2 here, I pay £10, being also their mobile customer, and get a decent 16Mb/s download and 1.3Mb/s upload connection. There's no limiting in any way, I had a few issues in the beginning before they fixed the line but now it's all good and stable as hell. I've got several PCs hooked up to the router (4 or 5 atm) and my daily download is probably about 10GB of pr0n or so ;)
