Hi guys,

I'm having a problem where some devices cannot connect to my wireless network. The devices (A HTC Desire and a Dell D630) complain that the network password is incorrect.

I have checked the password numerous times - it is correct. I have even, for the purposes of testing, set the password to something hugely simply to rule out any errors. Both devices won't connect. I can see the password as clear as day on the configuration screen, it exactly matches the password being entered into the devices.

To confuse things further I have other devices - a Playstation 3, a Dell D620, another HTC Desire. These all connect perfectly using THE SAME PASSWORD.

What is wrong here?

Thanks :)

What is the encryption type? It's possible that they are not compatible with something like WPA2.

It's WPA/WPA2.

If they are not compatible why does one of my HTC Desires connect without issue yet the other HTC Desire wont connect? They are the same device. Also, the Dell D630 won't connect and the Dell D620 will - the D620 is simply an older version of the D630.

Some more info - if the network is unsecured then as expected it works.

If I set it to use WEP instead then the Desire that wouldnt connect to the WPA secured network now just gets stuck on Obtaining IP Address.

Meanwhile, the Desire that worked fine in the first place continues to work fine with WEP.

I'd put it down to a faulty device but the fact I have two devices this seems to happen with makes me think it isnt this.

Force the box into either WPA or WPA2 mode on TKIP or AES if you can, manually setup the devices.

You can also try forcing a clear of the cached settings on the devices so that they are picked up again.

You could also write down the exact details of a connected device:

WPA or WPA2
TKIP or AES

Configure a non working one with these exact settings manually.
