O2 Wireless Router - Any Good?

Hi all

My switch to o2 broadband goes live tomorrow and ive currently got the o2 provided wireless router sat in a box. we have been using a Belkin wireless router/adsl modem device for the last few years. Does anyone know if the o2 wireless router is any good? Its the latest white b/g wifi router modem combo. Is it worth me switching to use the o2 box or shall I just keep the one I have?

Also, is the o2 box locked to be used on o2 in any way? If not could be kept as a spare, or to use when I move out :).

I'm in the same boat. I should be activated on Friday. Did you get the deal where you get 12 months free home broadband? I'm not going to bother using the router they sent out to me. My Netgear DG834N is better.

I don't suppose you want to tell us what your current router is?
 
mine works fine. Using it wireless 3 floors up. Getting medium strength signal, which is fine for me. Ovbiously the lower(closer) i go the stronger the signal.

The o2 box has been stable, no drop outs.

I dont know what else anyone would want tbh? Maybe max signal on the top (3rd) floor? Surely thats unrealistic tho.
 
My original O2 box completely died. I decided to dig out my old Netgear router instead and it's much more stable.
 
I used the O2 wireless router very briefly, just to see how it compared to my Netgear, and the sync was 0.5mbps less; the Netgear (DG834G) is also good if you are quite a distance from your exchange I have found.
 
Im finding the bundled router really good, I originally had a Linksys WAG54GX2 which cost me around £80 if I remember rightly. And the free o2 one gives me better signal strength all round the house, and hasnt dropped out one and its been on for over a month solid.

Iv ditched the linksys and am using the o2 one.
 
Try both over a couple of days, see which one synchs higher and has a better wireless range and use that. For general purposes the o2 is okay I suppose (not that I use it), but if you want to do any advanced configuration then forget it.
 
Tried the O2 router for 5 mins. No ability to change security settings on the firewall, cant change any wifi security, cant add new accounts, cant forward ports....

But I cant use the Belkin as I dont have the login details for my account!!!! GRRR!

Login details for o2? It's a blank username and password. You just need to change the Belkin's MAC address to the same as the o2 routers.
 
You don't even need to fiddle with MAC addresses.

The username and password (which you'll need if you're going via BT Wholesale) will be buried in the O2 box's config.

Right!

But there is a seperate thread for this, so ill just conclude that the O2 box is pants.
 
Well I just hooked my O2 router/modem up for the 1st time today and I'm synched at 1,347 / 16,982 (up/down) :D As I'm only on the Mid package my max is only 16Mb down and 1.5Mb up so I'm getting nearly my full speed. Just kicked an Ubuntu torrent off to test and the download speed peaked at the full 16Mb and held there. 700MB ISO downloaded in under 10 minutes!

I've just moved house and I love living a mere 200m from the exchange!

I should be activated today. Will I need to change any router settings migrating from Be? I'm on dynamic IP and it is set to get the IP from the server.
 
I like how I'm still paying for up to 8Mb, but I'm still getting the max my line can take - 10Mb. And now it's cheaper because I'm an o2 phone customer. And now it's free for a year because of a discount voucher :)
