Hokai,

Further to my rant about vodaphone and the removal of MMS from the addon packs, I've decided that they can take a very long walk down a very dark alley....I'm moving to O2 HAHA! :p

I've (almost) decided that I'm going to go with the O2 XDA Mini S, simply becuase I've always liked the XDA's but they're too damn big! This mini version is about the same size as the 6600 that I fell in love with a couple of years ago (but with loads more features).
Big selling point of O2 is that the plan that I take out is the one I have until I change or the contract expires, i.e. they're not going to take away my inclusive mms!!!!

Anyone have any problems with the phone or O2 in general before I take the plunge?

There is a newer 3g version of the phone with a 2mp camera out now. I dont think o2 have it yet, T-Mobile have it as the Vario II (IIRC) and Vodafone have it as the Vodafone V1605

and Orange as the M3100.

I got this phone on O2 about a month ago...i think...my perception of time is a bit warped at the moment...

Great phone, does everything I wanted it to. No problems with O2 so far either. Customer service when I've rung them has been fine.

i love the mini-s. upgraded from my XDAII so used to "windows mobile" and can't/wouldn't live without them. it's a tad annoying that 02 haven't upgraded the mini-s to the newer model like orange/tmobile etc... but in the end i liked my contract w/ 02 and didn't want to wait any longer.

it's a great phone, not very good for pictures as the delay from pressing the button to taking photo's is, well, phenomenal. but i don't take pictures often so it's a non-issue for me.

Thanks for your input guys.

I've looked at the new version of the phone on the orange and t-mobile websites and I'm not entrirely sure that I like it lol.
I never video call anyway....I had a 3G contract for a year (worst mistake of my life  ) and I must have used video calling twice, and both times I think I was intoxicated :p

Will be getting my new contract and XDA Mini S on Saturday.

(anyone want to buy a D600 to help pay the cancellation fee of my Voda contract lmao :o)

Hope you enjoy it however I do think you've made a mistake.. best bit of 3G ISN'T stuff like video calling.. it's the high speed internet for just general surfing etc. So much more snappier than GPRS.

I see, thanks for that input BigDom.

Still prefering the "old" version of the phone though. Looked at the Vario II on T-Mobile but their packages confuse me....expecially flext

Think I'll just stick with O2, I've had lots of good comments from people who have switched from other networks (including vodaphone :p), might ask them if they are planning to stock the new version of the phone though :D

Not sure why flext is confusing ya it basically just a usage limit that you can use texts or calls or both on each month which means there's less likelihood you will end up with spare minutes or texts unused. T-mobile is great in that if you take the web'n'walk you get unlimited web surfing and on a pocketpc based device that is a great advantage.

Some big reasons why the Vario II is better then the Mini S

1) Processor Speed. The Mini has a 200mhz processor. The Vario II has 400mhz. Since WM5 has a higher processor overhead, the Mini S will feel slow.

2) HSDPA. Think extra fast 3G. It means bugger all for video calls, but for downloading data/internet browsering its great. Its like saying "I don't use skype, so I don't need broadband". Once you have it, you'll never look back.

3) Data tarrifs. £7.50 a month will buy you as much data as you can "sensibly" use. Think about it. O2 will charge you a rip off £3 per mb. If you use any kind of mobile internet connectivity, you'll be ripped off.

4) The Flext deals are quite a bit better. In essence the tarrif adapts to suite you always. If you can understand the concept its a really good one.

5) The Vario II features a jog dial (of sorts) which makes one handed navigation/use a lot easier.

6) Lots of other minor tweaks and improvements make it quite a bit nicer to use in practice. The T-Mobiles tarrifs just seal the deal. The Mini S was a great device, the Vario II is so much better. Make the move, you'll never look back.

A lot of people say the Mini S is slow, but compared to a HP hw6915 (Intel 416MHz), running TomTom (probably the most demanding thing I've run on them) is no different - to my eyes. As long as you don't install the O2 bundled stuff, it runs great for most things, and has exceptional battery life as the processor is less power hungry.

Anything more demanding and I suspect it will start to struggle though.

Thanks for all your input guys.

I discovered that in my area t-mobile have shocking signal coverage on 2G let alone 3G :( shame as I was really getting geared up for a flext web'n'walk tarrif.
Will be talking to O2 later to see if there is any was they can sort me out with unlimited internet access.
Of course, I could always get the T-Mobile tarriff and if its really shocking then I can take it back under the 14 day money back guarentee W00T! :D

No point going for the old when when the new one is out. I have a XDA Mini S and really enjoy it, now on the Flext with Web'n'Walk, it's ALLLLLLL good.

I've had a XDA Mini S on O2 for about 6 months now & I've only got 2 gripes/moans

1, Sound quality isn't the best , bluetooth sound quality is much better so I use it 90% of the time
2. The O2 data tarrif sucks big style , If I was talking out a new deal I'd go for T mobile .

If yout struggling with reception on T-Mobile then it is worth taking a look at Orange and the M3100. It's NOT as good as T-Mobile but on the flipside their data packs don't have the same restrictions the basic WnW has.

Looking at this thread is appears O2 is the worst option by no small margin. T-Mobile is definatly the best, I went Orange purely as I got a free upgrade :).

Why do you say that O2 is the worst?

I know that the T-Mobile Web'n'Walk tarriffs are amazing (i really want). But O2 seem to have much better coverage and better customer service.
I've just found an old T-Mobile sim and the signal isnt half bad, maybe they have improved their reception here over the last 2 years lol :p
No offence, but I will never go back to orange, signal is naff here (my brother is on orange) and I've always found their customer service to be less than professional.

Think I might have to go with the T-Mobile Flext Web'n'Walk tarriff as I've just rang up O2 and they cant touch unlimited data transfer. If I really don't get on with it I've got 14 days to return it. My only reservation about T-Mobile is whether they are offering such great deals just to get customers back. I know that they went through a stage not so long ago where they were absolutely shocking and everyone left them!

What about the restrictions on WnW?

Reasons why vodafone would be better :

Better Repair Service
Better Network Coverage (Larger HSDPA Coverage)
Better Customer Service (FREE!)
No Restrictions on data

But then....you get what you pay for.
