EDIT: Thread title fail!

Hi all,

Recently moved into my new house and have had o2 broadband for a month now no problems :) Now when I lived with my mum I dropped the noise margin down to a 3db profile which helped a little with speed and never had a problem.

Can anyone see any problems with my doing this on my line in my house:

Uptime: 0 days, 1:13:32

DSL Type: G.992.5 annex A

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,170 / 5,664

Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]: 47.59 / 133.47

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 18.5

Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 29.0 / 51.0

SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.5 / 6.5

Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / BDCM

Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Loss of Link (Remote): 0

Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

FEC Errors (Up/Down): 55 / 11,125

CRC Errors (Up/Down): 55 / 8

HEC Errors (Up/Down): 4,882 / 5

Thanks for your help :)

You're at 6.5 so could easily drop it by 3db, but as for whether or not this is a good idea will entirely depend on the quality of your line. I've dropped my mums line down to 2db and it only varies by 1db over the entire day, my brothers however varies by 4db so often would drop out.

You'll just have to try it and see.

I would keep an eye on the line to see how much the SNR varies over a 24-hour period. If it's only 1-2dB then you should be OK.

If you leave it alone it'll inevitably settle to a point where it's stable, no matter what the target SNR margin is.
