O365 Admin Question

I hve some software to automate o365 admin tasks but it will not interact with the default domain. If I change the default domain to the onmicrosoft one, this isn't going to have any adverse effects right? It only effects what the default domain is when creating a user via the admin gui?

It should only affect the logon name yes. If you have the mail setup you may want to check your address policy after you make the change unless you have manually changed the default sender address.
