Hi All,

Just a quick one, and more of a case of self assurance, we're looking at moving to a new DNS (nameserver) provider for our domains - am i right in assuming that once i've got the nameserver addresses pointing to the new provider and the MX records copied across, O365 should carry on without an issue?

I know we're likely to see some downtime, although i'm guessing it'll be minimal considering the records themselves aren't actually changing, but i didn't want O365 to have a hissy fit and then having to spend time re-configuring O365.

Cheers all :)

I don't think you can expect any downtime as long as you've got your zone imported correctly to the new provider before you change the name servers.

If your new provider doesn't let you get the DNS records set up before you change the name server records on your domain then pick a different one. There is no reason why there should be any downtime at all.

Cheers. No issue in sorting records pre swapping to the new provider; was more of case of O365 noticing the change in nameserver(s) and throwing a wobbly - i don't see why it should but just wanted to cover all bases.

O365 does check that DNS records are correct, but it doesn't do anything with that information other than alerting you in the portal.
