OBD software

Is this for the Z4MC? The 'free' stuff like torque only reads the ECU IIRC, the Z4 has numerous other memories where faults are stored. You won't be able to access those with the freebie stuff making it much less useful - only a small handful of errors you might reasonably expect to come across will be stored in the ECU itself.

Fox is correct, stuff like Torque will only read standard OBD codes and virtually nothing manufacturer specific, which are often the more useful ones to get at.

You can get generic 'P Codes' but on a VAG car for example there are also number codes that it can't get which are more specific about the problems

Can I hijack this thread? What would I need to read the error codes for a 1998 Honda Civic Aerodeck?

Engine mgmt light intermittently comes on and i'd like to find out what the issue is....

A bosch garage gave me a print out of error codes that it found but they are not P codes like I see a lot online but 5 digit numerical codes which I cannot find a great deal of info on.

No it's not - sorry should have made that clear, I'm looking for something generic that covers most vehicles as I come across a lot from the wider family that would benefit from code analysis.

There is a BMW software tool, that does for BMW models. I'm looking for something that will read the code, give an explanation and possibly some suggestions for the cause of the fault.

Andi.
