Oblatoo - The Charitable search engine?

"For every search made 1p is pledged to charity"

Surely they don't hope to be as big as Google...if they do then thats A LOT of money going to charity...

Imagine if google did that

The line should read "For every search made 1p is giving direct to Poolybit's pocket"

ffs...they seriously need to consider redesigning that if they expect people to actually use it.

good idea though. might get someone to write a macro to keep submitting random search strings....get some cash flowing :)

  • When I search for slipstream drivers guide intel I get two results. That tells me it's a rubbish search engine
  • Badly designed - I don't want to look at that, first thing in the morning when I need to search for something
  • Why should I contribute to a charity, when the only benefit I receive is a half-baked search result?

the whole point of a charitable donation is it's supposed to be selfless. if you aren't a selfless person, the donating to charity is probably a concept you'll never be familiar with.

i'm not having a dig at you, i'm pretty much the same. although i'd probably donate to charity if i actually had some cash i could spare!

Have a read of the T&C's they've covered themselves for that one. It also says that they won't actually donate any money until the 31st of December and even then they'll onlt donate if they can afford to which sounds dodgy to me.

To be fair, I'm not a very charitable person. I have enough bills to spray my money at, without having to think about charities.

Out of all the charities listed, I'd prefer to donate to the RSPCA.

The big question, for me, is: If a total of £1m was actually raised, how much of that would go towards "administration" costs?

that's actually a big problem i have with charity. if there's so much spare money from charitable donations (i.e., enough to spend on 6 minute adverts at christmas, and nice big company cars for bosses) then something somewhere isn't being done properly.

wasn't it something like 80% of money from donations goes back into marketing at Oxfam? if it's not anymore, it was. i just find that disgusting, and it's another reason i don't donate. Oxfams are starting to look more and more like Topman/Topshop!

My exact problem - administration costs.

Have you seen some of the Oxfam comapny cars? I've witnessed spanking new BMWs.

yeah, not even the important people - bloody area managers and stuff....see them parked outside our 2 local oxfams quite a bit, with their oxfam stickers and swanky suits. bah...i'll get on a rant if i don't stop now!

Some people use charity for personal gain, at school one guy wanted to go on a gap year to teach in a school in an underpriveleged community in India.

I though, OK thats good when he came to ask me for sponsorship, then I asked him where the money will go exactly, he replied to fund my travel and expenses, and that he needed to raise 2k.

He wanted people to sponsor him to go on a skydive.
I thought to myself, is the school going to benefit from having him for 6months or 2k cash?
(average wage in india is probbably £80 a month) so 2k is some serious wodge. He was getting a free gap year when most other students were doing job, loans etc.

Thing is everyone else though he was doing a good deed and gave him a tenner! What fools.

could always put it as your homepage, and search for google everytime!

with autocomplete you'd only have to type "g" too :D
