in bed.
So here it is then. Bits have been bought, and other bits have been ordered. The time for building will be Sunday. This is what I ended up with;

Q6600 & Coolermaster 212
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3
2gb DDR2-800 (2x 512 Corsair XMS2, 1gb Elixir (which'll be going in favour of 2x 1gb of the Corsair's very soon))
Sapphire 1gb 5750 & Zalman ZM-FS-V7 Fatal1ty
320Gb Hitachi Deskstar 7200rpm 16MB SATAII
NEC AD-7240S 24x DVD+/-RW/RAM Dual Layer SATA
OCZ 500Watt ModXStream
Black Lian-Li PC60
Windows 7 Home Basic 64bit
Logitech G5
Belkin N52te

(Some of it I already had.)

Was going to get the 2gb of RAM instead of SATA drives, but I decided it'll be easier to stick the RAM in when I get it later than swapping out drives and reinstalling windows, and I wanted to go all SATA for both speed and airflow's sake. I'll also probably be getting some Xilence Red Wings for either case or HSF.

I also realise the Zalman VGA cooler is probably unnecessary but I had a couple of quid left over and have never played with VGA cooling and thought 'what the hell'. :D Don't judge me. :p

Coming from an Athlon Dual Core 1.7 laptop, 1gb RAM, 128mb shared video RAM, and the old Athlon XP3000, 1gb RAM, Radeon 9600 256mb (I think), that should pretty much rock my socks, yes? :)

Whats your budget? Might be able to squeeze in an i5 setup instead... ?

And get the OEM operating system aswell

It's all already coming, there is no more budget. Gone for that board and CPU because I got the board & RAM dirt cheap from a mate who's just upgraded his motherboard.

I'm also planning on OCing it as far as I can sensibly manage, in case that wasn't obvious.

Get the Q6600 upto around 3GHZ to 3.2GHZ and it will be fine for modern games.

I have a Q6600 at around 3GHZ and a highly overclocked HD4830 512MB and I can play many relatively recent games at 1440x900 or 1680X1050 at decent settings.

The Sapphire HD5750 1GB seems a decent overclocker too:

That's what I wanted to hear! :)

Oh, the monitor's a HP2009v 20" I bought for my 360, so should be able to get some nice resolutions on the go!

Edit:

Essentially you can buy a HD 5750, overclock it to HD 5770 performance levels and party away the rest of the money.

Fantastic! Should either go higher/run cooler with the Zalman doobrie on it too, surely?

As mentioned in my previous post the Sapphire HD5750 1GB seems a decent overclocker so if you are lucky you can get near the performance of an HD5770 1GB. I would check how well the HD5750 overclocks with the stock cooler first as it seems relatively decent according to the review.

BTW,I also use a G5 mouse too!!
