hi
can any one help me making a custom build for my new char. Im planning on Mostly using a bow and a sword, (sneak behind an enemy using detect life, get off a couple of arrow shots and then when there near switch to sword to finish them off) So marksman, Blade, sneak would have to be on my majors.. but what about attributes? Obviously Agilty, but should i add speed and Stength to it? Mostly on my builds when i level i put points into two Atts and one into luck. (e.g if im a mage 1 point into Willpower, one into int and one into luck) So should i leave speed and add the points to luck? or just leave luck out

So this is what im kind of looking at, at the moment.

Sneak,
blade,
Security
marksman,
Mystisim
Light/heavy armor

Now im not sure if to add athletics and acrobat into the 7 as im planning on using the sword (nojumping to higher levels to shoot the creatures with an arrow) Im going to be using Alchemy too but dont really want that on my 7 Majors.

Also what about armor? Should i go Light armor or heavy? Sorry to be such a noob lol

I don't think it really matters. There's a quest in the Fighters Guild that you can max out both light and heavy armour on - the one where you have to sort out a 'rat' problem.

I was a dark elf with pretty much the same main attributes you've chosen there (apart from mysticism and marksman). Light armour was my major. I was upto level 21, with over 100 hours of gameplay, had just started playing through Shivering Isle, and lost my save. This happened yesterday, and I'm pretty gutted.

Not sure if I CBA to start again or not. Trying a different race might make it interesting enough to do it all again, although I'm not sure.

Heavy Armour has an effect on sneak so I'd advise against it.

until lyou are a master of sneak.

Which can be done by setting it to a minor skill then just going into sneak in a corner behind a guard and just pressing auto walk and coming back every 30 mins to click the "you've be come a journeyman/expert/master of sneak"

Yes, but that doesn't help the op if they're going to play properly :p. May as well turn the difficulty right down and console edit your way to glory.

it's nto really editing it's exactly how the stupid leveling system works.

TBH if you want a proper RPG with choices go play fallout 1&2.

Fallout 2 is the greatest RPg if not game of all time.

Character skills actually mean something in them you can't be a jack of all trades you have to make choices.

Like if you make an intelligence 1 character it will be an utter retard don't expect to be conversing with people beyond "urghh " "Me likey you"

It's a completely different game and rather interesting to play a int 1 character because they actually rewrote all the dialuge for it.

People will react as though youare a simpleton and try to explain things as if you're a child :D

Yes, but exploiting said system is just another way of cheating. It detracts from earning skills whilst actually playing the game.

If the op wanted help with the Fallout series I'm sure they'd ask for it. What they have asked for is help with an Oblivion class build that you can assume from the first post will be for a clean playthrough. The cheating aspect may be true and exploits to the levelling system are in there, but they are pointless additions to the thread when its clear what the op is after.

Of course I may be wrong, but even then I'll say that exploiting the game is pointless. Yes its heavily flawed but playing a game with god mode enabled is generally about as fun as boiling your own testicles to eat with your sunday dinner.

But the levelling system combined with the creature levling is broke if you want stealth to be a useful skill.

If you set it to a minor skill without deliberately grinding it it will not rise quick enough to be useful, but if you set it to be major it levels you up so fast that you gain levels very quickly but with terrible attributes and skills so you end up facing lvl 10-15 monsters with journeyman blade and marksman and get destroyed.

On topic though if you're going for stealth/marksman and a short quick sword (which will work best with your high speed and agility), rather than a high damage long sword or claymore, take alchemey.

It's slow to start but you can make reasonable amounts of money making potions and al eat any spare ingredients when you get overweighted as they also lightly boost your skill.

Once you get some reasonable equipment (since you're stealth rob the alchemey stores in the imp city).

Once you get it to the third level you can make some very powerful poisions (especially ocne you can go to oblivion for paralysis +damge health + damage magicka ingredients) that give you the paralysis edge well before you could get it through magic.

Even a potions of paralysis of 1 second put o nyour sword can let you finish of that opponent who didn't take enough damage from the bow as they stand up or let you make some distance.

Oh and don;t take security it;s completly useless.

All it does it make less pins fall + boosting the auto pick.

Just practice the mini game for a little bit and you can pick the hardest locks with the loest level of security. (assuming you are using vanilla not a using a mod that makes certain locks unpickable till you reacha certain skill level)

I wouldn;t bother with luck, but speed and agility are two very good ones to use you can get more swipes in with a short sword + dagger to make up for lack of strength (but boost that upo to a reasonable level too)

Also don;t add athletics or acrobatics they will make you level very fast just running from town to town and you'll get destroyed by the levelling bandits + monsters.

Although if you like to RP you could take a daily swim in the river to boost your athletics and it could be part of your characters daily routine and training.

Obviusly not quto swim for ages to exploit but just a couple of length/laps at a certain time each day.

Along with a spot of dear hunting to train your marksman (not just the skill but also your own aim/skill with the bow to lead targets)

Although I would recomend one of the basic velocity mods for the archery (a nice simple x2 velocity is best) it's not a cheat (like the x4/x6 mods)it just makes the arrows fly at a realistic speed and also makes the rag doll fly back when you get a one shot :D.

I used to love deer hunting with my marksman, you get to find good ingredients (plants as you hunt) for your alchemy gets some pelts to sell + venison for alchemy + you always end up chasing them into trouble as you follow them and wind up running into a bear :D

I've got a Bosmer using Assassin and Thief starsign and it comes out with nearly all those attributes, with light armour. Level 21 and near master with the bow now. Also near maxed out on sneak, and combining that with a chameleon 25% enchanted ring means you can sneak around and pretty much not be spotted by anything.

Default bethesda levelling is always broken. I refuse to play Oblivion these days without a levelling mod that makes the level up multiplier set by what skills you chose, not by what you levelled. I remember the days of trying to efficiently level so i didn't gimp myself and it ruined the game in the long run. Or saving quests till later because the reward would suck otherwise.

Which mod would you recommend for this?

dont install all the leveling mods or your game wont work properly, use the ones that are listed in the convergence thread

if you want the best oblivion experience you have to mod you game,i know its off putting but its worth spending the time to do it,its a game that can literally last you forever if you mod it correctly;)

I played a game as a sneaky archer. I completed the main quest in one evening just getting one shot kills with sneak attack. The steel bow was the fanciest bit of equiptmen I had. Very overpowered without any mods.

I really should use something like the FCOM mod to really change the feel of the game. But they always seem to take forever to do and normally end up not working... (i could never get Qarls Texture Pack working either). This is a nice simple OBSE mod that levels up quest items automatically, levels up spells automatically (both togglable and triggerable manually). It increases the max of spells and attributes to 200 though not all still work properly. And most of all, gives multipliers based on the specialisation and major skills you chose, and failing that, you can modify them yourself (so if you really wanted to... you can set em all to x5, including Luck). So you can level as fast as you like without gimping yourself.

yeah they can be a pain to install,i think it took me about 3 full days in total of reading, installing, uninstalling due to missing textures,i finally got it right but it did take a while i almost deleted everything from my hardrive in frustration many times but got there in the end.
