Oblivion Crashing? Other probs?

To cut the long story short, been playing oblivion all of a sudden graphics distortion, obvlivion crashing at the intro screen, i honestly thought my gfx card had died...

But for your information if anyone has any probs, here is a simple solution that worked for me, simply go to my documents, games, oblivion, (backup oblivion.ini) and delete it, the game when running will create a new one and guess what....

Oblivion works again!!!!! :eek:

Oblivion seems to crash every other time I quit, also get random crashes while loading new areas e.g. when going into a house for the first time the loading screen that is supposed to show all kind of helpful tips (but in reality is gone before you can read it lol) will change every second and then the game stops responding.
 
Yer the game does crash a lot, and I hate how it's so uncompatible when minimising to the desktop etc. (crashes if you stay in desktop for too long), and usually if another program pops up Oblivion will minimize, not very good if your in the middle of a heated battle!

I thought their reason for delaying the release was too fine tune it and remove bugs! Pff..

No problems here. Minimised it, had tea, went for a run, came back and continued. Working as intended. :p

im so glad someone made this thread because im playing it on my new PC and i thought it was problems with that and not the game :)

I cant minimize it at all (it locks my system up), sometimes when i quit i get the windows "this program has had an error, blah, blah do you want to send a report"
 
One thing: if you are running your rig overclocked, then turn the speed down. It doesn't matter how stable your rig is with other games, Oblivion will find the slightest weakness. I've had to drop mine 200MHz, but it's a lot more stable now. If your rig is NOT overclocked then it may be the game, but I'd bump the CPU voltage a notch first to test.

Mine crashes every now and then when entering new areas, as does a mate of mines on his rig. Same fault, same conditions. Seems to be an issue elsewhere that I've read too. Hopefully a patch for it'll sort it out.
 
Mine crashes ever other time on exit, its not a big deal really, just means I have to click dont send error report every time, I have had it crash once or twice in game, but nothing consistent.

Yer that's what mine does too. I'm not really bothered about it crashing when I exit, doesn't ruin the game or anything, but it's a bit annoying have to re-load the game whenever I switch to the desktop for about 5 minutes.

yeah same here, except i'm having quite a few random CTD's, seems like its completly random, sometimes it'll happen when there is nothing going on at all, sometimes menus, sometimes when things gets stressful, buts its nothing i've found that can be reproducable or consistant, its not like it happens all the time, i can get plenty of playing in between crashs, like a good hour or 2, and i save very often anyway so i never really loose any progress because of it, and oblivion loads pretty fast so hey its aint that bad, i just put up with it, its a little annoying though.


i am overclocked as you can see from my sig, that may or may not be the cause, but i'm not about to change that, i'll just put up with the CTD's, but it'd be a whole different story if they were complete reboots like i've heard some people getting.

Sounds like the crashes I have. Hopefully they will fix this up a bit in a patch.
 
can u just ask how many of u have x-fi cards coz i couldnt get the game past create a new game tab it just freezes up so i disabled my card and it works fine, well not fine now i dont have sound lol
 
I have a xi-fi card, along with a 1900xt and an a8r32 MVP deluxe mobo, which seems to dislike running source engine games at all, though thats probably a bios fix from what I have been reading.
 
Mine crashes everytime I exit :( Also out in the open areas it feels like its stuttering but my fps is around 30-35...
 
Mine crashes every other time I load the game, If i play it stop go have lunch try and play again it will crash on the "Bethesda" initial load up screen. If i play the game restart my comp then play again this does not happen.

Im not overclocked running everything as standard, when the game works it doesn'c crash during the game or when I close the game.

It crashes on exit if you save and then exit the game straight away. If you save and then go back into the game for a second it doesn't crash.

I've been getting that too, screen goes all screwy and I need to power down to get it to work again. Doesn't matter if I change gfx card drivers either, and the temp is only around 65 degrees c
