Oblivion "Not responding" while game is loading

Uninstalled oblivion the other day and reinstalled it again, now it just stops responding on the first load bar, never even get to the main menu. Tried uninstalling and installing again but same thing

Any ideas???

My brother had something similar yesterday, he reinstalled it for the first time in ages to find it kept hanging/crashing.

He spent all day mucking about with various drives and trying to find a solution to the problem and ended up trying to remove every single trace of it from the registry, which finally sorted it out.
Our conclusion was that it might be a rather messy game in regards to the registry when it's uninstalled thus reinstalls cause it to get confused/crash.
