i bought oblivion the day it came out back in march. Back then, i tried it out, literally just beginning the game, and found it crashed every few minutes, so left it until now.
The SAME problem is still happening. It just freezes totally after a few minutes, and i am unable to get back to windows or anything, i just have to hit the reset button. I patched the game with the patch off the elder scrolls website (small patch file of about 1mb or something) Is there a more substantial later patch out or anything?
When i check my gfx card temperatures back in windows after windows has come back on, the temperatures are a little over 70 degrees, whereas they are normally about 52-54 degrees when windows is just on normally at rest. Is it just getting too hot and crashing or what? I am in a cold room, and it is COLD today.
I literally am on the first few minutes of the game, and it will crash anywhere it wants, either when looking through the journal, or mid-movement.
I have an amd fx-57, (at 2.87 ghz....2.8ghz is default, but overclockers sent it to me clocked at that slightly faster speed) could this slight overclock be the culprit?
I have 2 x xfx extreme edition 7800gtx in SLI , at default clock, and 2gb of ram.
I let it decide automatically on the game what the best settings were, and it chose ultra high, but initally i increased the resolution, but when it kept crashing i dropped the res down to what it initally picked...same story, another crash eventually after not that long
any ideas?
