oblivion PS3- control sensitivity

I'm playing oblivion on PS3 and have a weird control problem. The analogue stick has a huuuge deadzone and then a very small area where the camera moves slowly and then it suddenly gets a lot quicker. It pretty much only has two speeds rather than getting faster then more firmly I push the analogue stick? Is my controller busted or was this a known issue (that was hopefully patched out?)
