Just over your shoulder
I am happily some way into Oblivion, and was looking to pick up the 2 Expansions sometime......but it seems far better economics to buy the GOTY edition for circa. £20.......

....so my question is, does anyone know for sure if I can 'carry on' with my current Oblivion saves in the GOTY edition ? I am thinking it is likely the same game overall, so this should be fine.....that said, don't want to spend pennies and find my saves are useless :(

You could in morrowind, so more than likely you can. you can even do it the other way round, provided you don't have anything from the later ones in your inventory, and you are in one of the original areas, at least you could in morrowind.

Just be aware that (iirc), the GOTY edition doesn't come with the extra downloadable content you get with the Knights of the Nine standalone edition, and said content cannot be downloaded via Vista. See here.

As for the save games, I have no idea :D

Hhhmmm, guess I need to just try and pick up a copy of GOTY and see......shame the shops won't take it staight back if no joy :(

Yes, you can. If you are running any mods, or if you have a different set of DLC files, then you may trigger a warning that the content has changed when you first open a saved game. Just agree to proceed and you should be fine. I've been using the same save game at the end of the character generation sequence for about two years now, through several installs and many changes of mods, DLC etc.

Excellent, thanks Meridian - off to get me the GOTY version, then - seems mad that the shops can still be asking close to £20 each for the expansions when the GOTY version is £20 also

Well, picked up the GOTY version Pre-Owned from the high street @ £9.99 (even gave me BOGOF so picked up Prey too !!!).......off to install and report back :)

And all seems fine :) albeit with only about 5 mins play, but the saves seem recognised et al.

Many thanks to all
