I have the game maxed out at 1920x1080 with the stutter remover which i found really sorts the game out. I noticed in the imperial city that shadows cast by people take my fps down from 60 to as low as 35 fps that is if a few people are on screen. If i turn the int and ext shadows to low fps are a solid 60fps all round. I have overlooked the shadows for the 4 years i have not played oblivion that was due to the bad stutter. Are their any decent shadow mods or good tweaks i can do to get decent shadows without the major hit?

I have a 4870x2 and im pretty sure the game is running in crossfire, however i did a test i ran the game with CAT AI on and in a populated area with a lot of shadows the games fps went down to 35. with CAT AI off the game dipped to only 50 55 from 60fps. So im not sure if crossfire is the issue i read that this game does have crossfire enabled.

Have you tried switching Catalyst AI off in CCC? The 4870X2 will easily handle Oblivion on one core ;)

As for finding mods, there are so many now I wouldnt know where to start!

Yes i have it actually doesnt help like i though. Having the EXT shadow slider to 25% or 50% keeps my fps at a nice 55 60 fps mainly at 60fps which is what i have it set at via oblivion stutter remover, im just annoyed at how having the slider to 100% would reduce fps to as low as 35 when a lot of shadows are on screen.

I have put them on yes i will see if turning them off helps.

They shouldnt eat performance on a 4870X2!!!

My 7950GX2 never had any problems with Oblivion maxed out - actually, my 7800GTX and 7900GTX both got on fine with the game.

If Catalyst AI is switched off then it also isnt a crossfire issue.

self shadows are horribly done in oblivion and make it look worse.

I got a 4870x2 performace seems a bit messed up but i'm using pahrds (ffs an;t spell his name) mod wich does some major overhaull on lighting indoors.

I have turned self shadows off. It just seems to be ext and int shadows cause a massive hit especially ext shadows. certain parts of oblivion just always run poor like at the start when your in the dugeon and looking at the steps fps just want to be at 55 when their is nothing going on its weird. when the emporer comes into the cell it dips into the 40s. I have noticed that oblivion gets some nice little gains when i oc my core i7 to 3.8 from 2.6
