Looks like a proper add-on is on the way. Here is some blurb:

First concrete details have emerged on Shivering Isles, Bethesda's first expansion pack for its RPG epic The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Revealed in the latest edition of PC Zone magazine, word is that the expansion will offer 30-plus hours of new adventuring, features new quests, monsters, expanded freeform gameplay - quest lines that branch more than before, for example - and a new land "that you can watch change according to your vital life-or-death decisions".

Setting the scene, it's explained that an ominous-looking gate has opened in Nibben Bay, the portal leading to a torn realm - the Shivering Isles - ruled by Sheogorath, the god of madness and dementia. Apparently, adventurers will meet the god and "plough through his trials", but it's additionally hinted that ultimately we may well be usurping the deity. A ETA of Q2 2007 has been given.

I never know if it best to plough your 90 odd hours old levelled up character into these add-ons or start a new game.... still it sounds interesting.

I keep meaning to start the game again after completing it last time, but with all this extra stuff i'll "have" to do, I'll have turned into a recluse by the time I finish it!!!

I would love to play this game, but whenever I try it crashes back to desktop after a while when I load into a new area

If that's "the first expansion pack" then what is Knights Of The Nine?

I would describe Knight of the Nine as the retail version of all the "downloadable content" for the game which were previously available separately of the official website. .

Basically it is a load of Mods which bolt onto the existing game - whareas this sounds like a whole new land...

Knights of the Nine is just a collection of downlaodable content all on one DVD. Shivering Isles is a 'proper' expansion with 30+ hours more gameplay.

I used to have a social life...*sob* :D

I heard it´s just some kind of a daedric dimension? If so, then that totally sucks. Don´t want no daedras anymore, had enough of them :F

Kvatch anyone??? They just let it be there for christs sake atleast I would want them to do it properly...

Not sure whether I should play Oblivion or not considering that Morrowind destroyed my social life for a few months...

what game do i need to buy to play knights of the nine ?

You'll just need The Elder Scrolls IV:Oblivion, the full game. The Knights of the Nine extras come in the form of add-ins and you just enable them like adding in a mod through the data files menu. :)

Was just watching the 1upshow for this week and it had some shivering isles footage. Looks awesome, love the sort of crazed-fantasy scenery it has, bright mushrooms etc... Story sounds decent aswell, definately worth checking out.

i played oblivion i got to level 9 i think, then a friend gave me his save and he had completed it so that spoiled the game for me. iv installed and uninstalled the game loads of times. i think i might play it then the min i install it im bored of it.

alltho i love the game, i get hyper when i hear the games intro music etc i love rpg games. but iv wrewined it for myself.

allso oblivion feels dark and lonely some how its a bit boring at times. allso the textures look flat in the distance so thats a downside. (btw thats when running it at max quality)

i might try this addon, is it any good?

If as it comes with the improved shaders that the 360 and PS3 versions are getting I will buy it for that alone :D

i would love to play oblivion again but its terrible performance on Vista x64

It plays very well on my system with Vista x64. Although I do have an issue with not being able to use AA at the moment, hopefully the next set of Nvidia drivers will sort this out, no big as I just play with HDR enabled instead.

You might want to check out the official Oblivion thread on here as it has links to a number of mod sites with downloads to improve the textures, remove the weird grid repeating grass in the middle distance and many other things besides.
