oblivion shivering isles problem

I use a logitech 5.1 system but cannot get sound from conversations with characters when engaging in dialogue with them. I can't find any settings in audio to choose the correct speaker setup? Anybody have any ideas? thanks

Edit: just updated drivers and system shows 5.1 as opposed to stereo so hopefully this will have sorted the problem.
