Oblivion, strange.

Try streamline as well then.
Also wrye bash's bashed patch has a few tweaks to limit the number of actors on screen, and numerous other little things like that.

i dont have the PC version but the PS3 is pretty good. not really had any problems apart form it crashed one time but i've had it for years! never get bored of it!

Spam ?

OT:

Curunen, Thanks for that, although you mentioned limiting number of actors. Point is, I dont want that. My system is more than enough to handle this on Ultra without a problem, ive seen people on GTX260's being in towns and having no lag, so there has to be a problem somewhere

Yeah, I'm using a gtx260 (and i5 750) with a fairly heavily modded game, and everything is running smooth so far (meaning 20 - 40 fps most of the time).
Also I haven't bothered with any of those performance tweaks, other than using streamline and the stutter remover (along with some other obse plugins - fast exit 2 and such like).

Does yours ever drop below 30? Seems reasonable otherwise. I know this might be an odd suggestion, but maybe play with vsync to cap the maximum framerate (it skyrockets in the menus otherwise - I get odd noises from my video card when that happens)?

Everywhere except towns I get 100+, sometimes dropping to 80.

Just the towns that it lags, its because a lot of NPC's are around. But Ive saw videos of people with worse GPU's on Ultra being in towns and having no lag at all.

Have you tried lower settings? I know DoW2 had a problem where the game would instacrash the moment a 'floating head' dialogue box appeared on screen if you had settings on ultra.

I also use a gtx260 and have a E7400, with no problems playing Oblivion.

Have you looked at an earlier driver maybe?

That's starting to sound more like drivers than anything else.

I last played Oblivion with my 8800GT card, and that was pretty smooth in towns with several people on screen, fairly high settings and heavily modded.

Will give it a try tonight with my GTX460 and see what it's like :)

Been a long time since i had Oblivion installed but following a lot of the tweaks on here realy helped me out at the time (had a core 2 duo, 4gig ram & 8800gtgfx)

But to be fair with your system im surprised you are getting these problems, unless it's something to do with win7 as at the time i was on xp :/

hope it helps

Funnily enough I installed this again last night to finally finish off the main quest and I found that running it at 1920x1080, No AA, HDR on, V-Sync on and it ran really smooth, with any AA enabled I could feel the FPS drop.

Running W7 x64 on the rig in sig with the game patched to 1.2 running the "BT Mod".

My only problem is that all my weapons and NPC's ears and hair turn a glowing white colour when magic is used, really bugs me.

This is utter rubbish, i've installed oblivion and all it's expansions came to find a mod and there's so bloody many i don't know where to start. Why can't there be a simple step by step guide of each mod to install first, the beth forums are the slowest scrolling forums i've ever been on!

I use TES: Nexus, a lot more user friendly but I understand what you mean about mods etc, I've been left with missing "oblivion.esm" when I start the game after installing the KoTN DLC.
