Oblivion under Vista - Jerky (not the loading stutter)

Recently made the move to Vista (Business) and so far all is running ok, with one serious exception - Oblivion.

The game is incredibly jerky. The FPS is not low (over 30), but it's like it's dropping frames. Makes the game unplayable.

Anyone else got this issue under Vista? Have tried couple of different driver versions.

PS - not problems with other games. f.e.a.r, Tomb Raider, GRAW and more all run wonderfully.

Not too surew why your machine is doing that. I am running Vista Ultimate and a friend's 6800GT in my system till new card arrives and the game runs 100% all the time?

the game does that anyway, its extremely demanding.

No, this is not the normal stutter which happens during loading,e tc.

This is a constant jerkiness. Not once every few seconds, even - it's just constant.

At least I know it is not a general oblivion/vista issue then. Perhaps a known oblivion/8800gtx issue?

Anyone else with an 8800gtx on vista running the game ok?

PS - This is not mild kerking, but quite severe.

1680 x 1050, most settings up on high. Used to run fine with these settings in XP.

The pc is more than powerful for current settings as was running them before.

I know it's due to being on vista, but I need to try and figure if it something I can fix, or if I just have to wait for a driver update to fix it...

But Oblivion is one of the games where Vista hasent really made a difference.

Hmmm, wonder what the cause is then.... is possible it is one of the services running in Vista that is causing it? Can anyone think of a service that might interfere with the game?

I have installed very few programs in addition to everything that comes with Vista.

I will try disabling Avast later to see if that helps. Nothing else that might potentially cause a problem such as I am experiencing.

Dunno, just feels more like a driver/gpu problem to me, rather than something interfering.
