Currently playing through this gem, never got round to finishing the game when it came out. I did clock up about 30 hours into the game but thats nothing i didnt even touch any of the expansions or finish the main quest.
Anyway started again today but installed some mods:
obscuros oblivion overhaul
natural environment
darnified ui

Anyway loving this game only put in about 2 and half hours but with the OOO mod it really does make the levelling up system like it should be. Im still level 1 it takes a lot to level up, i should imagine at level 5 your gonna be pretty damn strong but thats gonna take forever:)
Anyone else like OOO mod, it really is wonderful.
S far ive joined the fighters guild but i havent done a single job for them yet (contracts are on the other side of the map) i also own a castle (the dlc one with the mercaneries attacking it). Now im just trying to get money to upgrade the castle, i need something like 10000 to upgrade it to its fullest. Ive had a couple fights in the arena but im getting paid peanuts, i know the money goes up but there already getting too strong to fight so ill come back later. Done a couple bets which made me win 200 gold. Also sold lots of stuff but still not enough, guess ill wait to im much further in the game before i can upgrade my castle.

Tbh i can't play Oblivion without something that changes the god awful vanilla levelling system. I was using 1 that set the multiplier values based on your choices but since then i've migrated to Oblivion XP. Levelling is a lot smoother (and you can alter things manually i think to make it harder or easier) and since you choose what skills to increase on level up you can't just suddenly decide 'oh i want 100 Sneak, i'll just go and level it while i'm down the shops' and hey presto.

OOO is great though, i remember getting attacked by some sodding Frost Titan or whatever it was, looked like a bull, either way i was lvl1 and it tore me a new 1, which is the only problem as luckily i'd saved it further back otherwise i'd of never escaped it.

Get Mart's Monster Mod. ;)

It's awesome. Adds so many monsters to the game. I love just running around the world and killing things, or watching as different factions of monsters kill each other. There's surprisingly huge battles between random factions of monsters.

I always get the whole FCOM mod though. OOO + Mart's + Francescos (level system I believe) + Warcry (more items and stuff).

Owning castles? Does it have horse archery, your own or wandering armies like Mount & Blade? Would be great owning an army of undead skeletons. :)

Horse combat can be added. I believe the deadly reflex mod adds that? I'm not sure but it can be done. Well, everything can be done in Oblivion. There's even a prostitution mod.

Every time I read a thread on this I have a small urge to get back to oblivion... until I remember the hassle of setting it up.
Seriously, I never finished the damn game (didn't even get that far on the main quest)- too busy spending months trawling through the thousands of mods available; checking compatibility and load orders only to have the game crash for some unknown reason, and so on.
There is just too much to tinker with, that I don't find it worth the effort.

Everytim I try playing oblivion, I end up getting consumed by mods.
