do you guys like oblivion? was wondering if i should get it and try it out. i hear its a role playing game like final fantasy but then others say its a fps game

It's both, RPG but FPS or third person. However you don't have allies in your team, unlike other RPG's as you'll have a fighter, wizard, healer etc.

It's first-person *and* a fantasy role-laying game.

I found it too short (but I clearly missed stuff), however I really really enjoyed the 'feeling' of the game.

It's a good game if you enjoy FPS/RPG last time i played it i became a vampire and well it got a bit tedious after a while . I've not really heavly played it but enjoyed it none the less.

Morrowind is probably a better game.

its very good, so much to do, you basicly live a life in a different world, so many quests, and lots of dungeons and caves to explore, im not into RPGs that much but this is amazing.

Its only any good with the mods , other than that its repetitive / the leveling sucks and distant textures look like arse :D

which mods are those?

also what weapons are available in this game? machine guns? all i saw on the gamespot pics were swords and bow and arrows, they probably only took a certain number of select screenshots.

if you scroll the forums there are loads of people listing mods

Elderscrolls forums for the best info

I found wikipedia - recommended mods - useful as well along with tweakguide for oblivion

mainly replacement texture mods,

gameplay ones its dependent on different people.

err machine guns? are you taking the **** (cant decide :D )

its a fantasy game so your pretty much dealing with medieval style weapons, standard swords, axes, bows etc, you get different types of each and also made from different materials or enchanted ones.

its an open world-ish game where you can do what you want or follow the storyline or do all the other side-quests.

its a good game IMO, less immersive than morrowind but this suits some people better with a bit more tighter scripting.

i would say it isnt anything like final fantasy if comparing the 2 in terms of gameplay, although both are RPGs where you control your stats, skills, inventory, etc.

its worth a go, some people hate it, get bored of it fast, love it, well like most games. general consensus its a good game.

M8, get it trust me, its one of my all time faves, everything about it is awesome, but requires a lot of time to be put into it, defintaly not a pick up and play game.

is there a mod to get a machine gun? be real funny when someone challenges you to a sword fight, reminds me of that scene from indiana jones :D

guess i will give this game a try, from looking around best mod to get seems to be this texture mod everyone is ranting on about.

also loads of people saying do hdr and AA on this game.

question is, can my pc handle it?

Hated it, so many issues with leveling and scaling, worst concept ever, it's the only game that gets harder as you gain levels. it completley defeats the point of having levels.

The levelling is annoying, but that can be fixed with one of the many mods. I don't notice it enough to bother changing it though.

It will run great on your system Mav, make sure you add Qarls texture pack though, really makes a difference.

what? give it a chance.. god mode will hold you back anyhow, healing yourself boosts your restoration skill.

play the game through clean, use the console to save as it'll give you unlimited save slots (save mygame0001 and use load mygame0001 to load save files not listed in the save menu).

another tip: in "My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Oblivion.ini"
search for iSaveGameBackupCount and set it to 2 or 3..
what that does is save's extra backups.. i.e.
autosave.bak
autosave.bak.bak
autosave.bak.bak.bak

that way if you accidently save over a file, all is not lost.
