Obnoxious? Blackjax.

The Evo has a blackjax alarm system, the whole shebang.

It has a proximity alarm, which when someone gets close to any of the windows (front and rear excluded) it will sound an alarm.

Today I've had to drive it into work and park it in the next door NCP, as I couldn't find the keys to the 306 daily.

This is the carpark:

The noise it makes is, well, startling and obnoxious. Ive just watched 2 women walk past it and nearly fall over due to the shock as the proximity alarm went off, but they didn't have much choice.

Car security is paramount in my eyes but I can sort of see the annoyance of the proximity sensor. Question is, should I care?

edit: picture from around 6.30 this morning, car park is now full.

proximity alarms seem a little OTT. Also is that vaseline on your lense?

Yes, because when it does eventually get broken into, people are so use to and not bothered by the alarm that no one cares anymore.

I believe I can turn it off yes, but as the car is normally parked up at home with CCTV and not near anyone walking by ive had no use to look at the manual,

Ill have a look when I get home.

Just turn it off when parked anywhere that it will be more of a nuisance than a help.

I've never heard of anyone having a proximity alarm. Very OTT.

There's a Subaru with one of those round the corner. It looks like something from Fast & Furious.

The alarm talks. "Please step away from the vehicle."

My missus walks past close enough to set it off on purpose every time

I hate proximity alarms with a passion. I'm probably completely overreacting but for some reason it just seems to me like the owner thinkgs their car is so important that I'm not even allowed to walk past it. I do completely get the security thing though and if my car were worth a lot then I'd want something similar on it.

If my neighbour had one then I'd probably keep walking past it deliberately

Used to have a Blackjax and it's easy enough to turn the proximity sensitivity down, have a look for the online instructions.

Thanks Randell, I have the book with the other docs at home ill give it a look tonight. Never really thought about it until today.

From what I remember the very lowest setting, not even a earthquake would have set it off. That might not be true for the ones with the tilt sensor mind.

the proximity thing on my old golf was useful one time that i remember, maybe twice

it will notify you if someone is around your car, but it sonly any use if youre nearby

in the 6 years, it was useful once and even then my response was to look with a slightly angry glare and they walked off
