This is a safe place where no rolling of eyes, forehead smacking or tooth sucking will be tolerated, unburden yourself of your ignorance and expose your bloomers .

I just twigged that Spag Bol is just short for spaghetti bolognaise rather than a trendy Swedish herring dish.

I used to read the word " Misled " as miss-eld rather than miss-led.

The annoying pimples on pavement edges are an aid to blind people rather than an anti-slip surface.

Not really that obvious, but when a bird is described as " Lesser Spotted " I thought that it meant its plumage was less spotty than other members of the same species
, however it means it is more rarely seen or................... spotted less.

Who da thunked it ?

I only found out last week that Meg White who plays drums with her brother Jack White in The White Stripes is actually not his Sister but an ex wife.

That's not really you being naive at all, I think the little tinkers were wholly implicit in perpetuating the ruse.

Again it's not that obvious unless you know but [ or it might be a myth ] the little hole in a biro pen cover is to prevent death should
it get swallowed and stuck in the windpipe.

I came across a chap that was so sure that airplanes did dump all the remaining fuel when landing in case an accident occured...

He's almost right, I think that is true when an airliner is forced to attempt an emergency landing soon after take off, they will dump [ safely obviously ]
the majority of the fuel to prevent a potential fireball.

Oh I completely agree it's safer, but definitely not conventional.

I work all over the world and I'm always talking about the amazing British plug design and now safe it is. Without exception, everyone thinks I'm mental.

Indeed, our sturdy plugs and sockets are a triumph of design and practicality, those spindly, 2 prong things the Americans use are
hopelessly outdated and naff.

Its not the volts that kill you its the amps.

Walking on nylon carpet can produce 20,000 volts in static electricity but virtually 0 amps.

Its not the volts its the push that can take you out fast.

Unless I'm reading your statement completely wrong, using a 1500watt heater on the 110v system draws
13.6 amps while using a 1500 watt heater on the 240v system draws a mere 6.25 amps, thus the UK system is safer amp wise.
