OC causing problems?

I quite often get the message "oblivion.exe has encountered a problem and has closed, please report this problem...." when playing oblivion, like once or twice every few hours. Is this caused by instability of my cpu/ram/gfx or is it down to the game/windows? I would have thought its the game/windows cos instability would cause glitches/crashes or am i mistaken? Thanks
