There's a million threads on how to clock a C2D, try searching the thread and check out the stickies.

Generally though you will want to disable any speed step or other similar CPU throttling in the BIOS then start raising the FSB. After each increase boot into Windows and check your temps and do some stability testing with Prime95 or Orthos. If it passes after a little while go back to the BIOS and raise the FSB some more.

WOW 3.15....

Hahaha what OS u running.

Do i need to OC my ram too to get that speed?

Are u using Stock fan?

Running XP at the mo, still waiting for nVidia to get their fingers out re Vista drivers.

You won't need to clock you RAM at all. In fact you could just have well used 5400 stuff as you're not gonna take your FSB past 400. (800DDR). Mine's technically running at stock as the Corsair stuff is guaranteed to take 675MHz.

You might get to 2.7 with the stock fan but I wouldn't recommend it. For the sake of £20 you can get a half decent 3rd party heatsink/fan combo that will keep the thing much cooler.

I'll try to help where I can. I'm no expert though, there's others on these forums that'll wipe the floor with me..... :)

will the Arctic Cooling (AC-FRZ-7P) Freezer 7 Pro Socket 775 CPU Cooler do?

its going at £18

I have built 2 E4300s with stock cooling. One reached 2.9 stable on a Gigabyte S3, and the other is 2.7Ghz on the ASROCK 4CORE (12 hours Orthos test). The 2.7GHz was on stock voltage as well.

I do have very well ventilated cases however.

My only nod towards ensuring a good overclock was a meticulously applied layer of Arctic Silver on my CPUs, to ensure a good mating with the stock cooler. No matter how fancy your cooler, you need to get that step right.

I would always advise tweaking with your current setup first before splashing out. It's good experience, and when you do get new more effective cooling you will be able to fully appreciate the distinction.

I was also thinking of this :

Asus Silent Knight Processor Cooler for AMD 940/939/AM2 and Intel 775/478

looks a beast.

I will try the stock cooler first, and if its no good I will buy a proper cool. mind you I like the Asus one.

I got a Thermaltake Xasar III V2000A case with plenty of fans
