OC i5 sandy & high temps.

Hi, i can manage to oc to 4Ghz on my standard intel cooler but the temp goes from 24C idle to 72C (after a minute or so) where i stopped the prime95 test as i dont want it to go any higher.

Is this a classic case of the heatsink not installed properly? It doesn't seem loose in any way Not enough thermal compound? I only put a thin smear on.

I shall edit later with bios voltages & settings.

DRam Voltage = 1.525v

Cpu Power Management
CPU Ratio = Auto
Enhanced Intel Speedstep tech. = Enabled
Turbo = Enabled
Turbo Ratio = Max Turbo in OS
Max Turbo Ratio = 40

Also I have just reseated the cooler but there looked to be a nice even coat of compound on the cpu & hs. I've not tried to run prime again yet until I know the settings above are correct.

The Intel coolers are or were pretty poor in my opinion.

For 4ghz your temps are not to bad, if you want cooler then invest in a better cooler, ie the Gelid below:

Yeah i appreciate the stock cooler is a bit poor & a new cooler is next on my list. I was mainly concerned with the temp. Not sure what the safe max is so didn't want to leave it.

If my settings above are fine then I can leave them 'as is' until i get my cooler. Hopefully at the end of the week.
