I know there is many threads about tis CPU, but I just need a quick answer to my problem :)

When I attempt to OC to 3.4 (8x 425), core 3 fails after about 5- 10mins of stress testing with P95 and small ffts, do I need to increase CPU volts? or I have reached the safe max clock of this CPU :confused:

Spec is as per sig, idle temps around 45, load temps (small ffts) with P95 around 70.

Thanks for looking and hoping for some more sound advice ;)
 
Well 70 at load is the limit I would say mate. you can increas the volts but the temps will go up a little.

Other option is to Lap the CPU or just go back to 3.3Ghz

For me thou those Temps are quite high

Thanks Jamie I think you could be right and I have reached my limits :(

I may lap sometime in the future but for now I will enjoy ;)

You think those temps are high, I was getting the same temps with an AC7Pro at stock, so I am well pleased now with OCing :D
 
yer mate enjoy your overclock ! for the mider of lapping to save a few degrees it probably not worth it, as for me I have took my PC apart that many times it would depress me to do it again!

Aim for water cooling in the future and you can get some nice overclocks and cool temps, and by that time there will no doubt be a 6 core CPU on the market for you to play with. ;)

What do you think is a goood time for the AS5 to settle in?:confused: it has been 2 days now, if I give it a couple of weeks hopefully temps may drop and I might squeeze a few ghz out of her :cool:
 
Some cpu's are just plain hot. Mine idles about that same and I'm on water! Then again this is at 4.1ghz:D. Its still a hell of a lot hotter than my previous chip.

Have you tried 378x9? This will put less stress on your motherboard but still give you 3.4gjhz.

Thanks for that w3bbo I was thinking of upping the multi to try and get 3.4 so will definetaley give it a go :cool:

UPDATE: Unfortunately no joy down this route, system unstable and BSOD (changing multi & upping volts) so will settle for 3.2 for stability

You might also want to take into consideration what speed your ram is running at. Its always best to overclock one thing at a time then you will know whats causing the pc to BSOD/fail.

w3bbo I have the ram multi set at 2x, and have not touched that whilst trying to increase CPU, when I said multi I meant 8x or 9x as you suggested re bus speed.

Whilst running P95 small fft I get either a failure on core 3 after about 5minutes or when I change multi I get a failure on cores 1 & 3, also load temps increase to 71 ave which is quite a jump from idle temps :eek:

I have increased CPU volts from 1.27 to 1.29 as I dont want to increase volts too much as I know it increases temps !!!

Any ideas or shall I just enjoy my current set up :confused:
 
Well temps seem to be limiting you as normally I would suggest an increase in vcore as your vcore is very low and to get 3.2 stable with such a low vcore is an achievement in iteslf. Until you either invest in better cooling or maybe consider lapping the cpu then I would stick with what you have.

out of curiosity what should vcore be set at roughly :confused:
 
my cpu is running 3.1 and idle is 21 and load it's 40.....you need some better colling m8...tuniq tower i would get.
 
Varies. Mine idles @ 33C, Load under prime95 @69C, both are perfectly acceptable.

Depends on the chip, at 3.4ghz, 33C idle is good, but i have a very poor chip as you can see under load it jumps a lot and the core temps would read like this:

Core 0 33C
Core 1 31C
Core 2 22C
Core 3

1. 40C under load, impossible, counter-strike doesn't count as full load :). There's not a person alive running an OC'd chip under prime on air at 40C.
2. If you are using prime, then what temp monitoring software you using? Asus probe will also tell me similar temps to you.
 
mine is 40 @ idle, and 65-68 at load.. however without prime95 it would never go over 50. so unless prime95 is your fav game, then you can go as high as load 75 i would say under prime
 
FINAL UPDATE

Right after giving a few tweaks and after 2hr with P95, I have finally settled at 3.4ghz (378x9) @ 1.3v (idle 39,37,38,39 & load 72,69,69,72) :D

This is as far as I would like to push it as the comp is used nearly 24/7 by myself and family :rolleyes:

All thats left to do is tweak memory multi and I am happy as a pig in #**# :p
