Need some feedback from experienced Overclockers.
I previously had a 775 QX9650 in a good Asus OC motherboard and used automatic overclocking features of the motherboard to get a 3.8GHz OC with RAM at its max frequecy.
I've now gone for an i3/i5/i7 system which has a basic Zoomstorm (Foxconn P55MX I think) motherboard which still has OC features in the BIOS for frequency, multiplier, voltage etc.
With an i3 550 the CPU defaults to 133 x 24 with RAM at 1333.
I've just bought some DDR3 1600 XMS3 RAM but it still defaults to same as above. If I try to increase the frequency of CPU/RAM I can't get the system to boot.
If I boot into Windows 7 and use the motherboard OC software tool I can easily get the system to run stable at 160x24 (3.84GHz) with RAM at its 1600 frequency. If I run a WEI it still only shows the same values with RAM at 5.9 even though CPU-Z is showing the new frquencies.
The software does not appear to alter the BIOS and system resets to default values on a reboot.
Question 1: Why is WEI not showing improved results with the software OC ? From what I've seen with the XMS3 RAM at 1600 I sould be getting an index score of over 7.
Question2: If I put the same 160x24 and DRAM at 1600 in the BIOS the system won't boot even though the software OC runs at these settings. The RAM shows its pulling 1.6v but have increased voltage on that to 1.65 and 1.75 but still no boot.
What am I missing. I've got a i7 860 coming at the weekend to replace the i3 and really want to get the system operating at the RAM frequecy of 1600.
I'm no expert so please be kind
