I'm wanting to buy some components to have my first real stab at overclocking and to help me get a better understanding how all the components work, relate to each other etc.
It's a bit overkill I know, but I would hope that I can then use some of the components to build an HTPC (midi-case not shuttle or the likes).
So, I need:
CPU - thinking a C2D that I can see good gains from
MB - Primarily good for OC'ing
CPU Air Cooler - cheap but effective, noise not an issue
RAM - 2Gb of cheap but overclockable RAM
PSU - needs to be able to hande the voltages I'll need from it and also a 8800 series card (maybe 9800 series at a later date)
I've got case, GPU (7900GTX), DVD-RW and a 250GB HDD so I'll use these at the outset.
Most important thing is to get components that work well together and that I can see tangible gains when benchmarking. Ideally, £300 max.
Thanks in advance.
