Hi, im looking to buy a PSU, i have tried so far Coolermaster silent Pro 850w and also Corsair HXi Series HX1000i both get coil whine when gaming , Corsair which gets it slightly lower noise,

my spec is below, i dont wanna complain, but after buying such high end i expect it to be perfect, and also building it to be silent makes it worse can hear it over the fans, i check and its coming from the PSU's

is there any PSU that is immune from this ? and Policy if i get Coil whine from PSU

Thanks

Are you sure it's not GPU?

Also you're better off asking in CS section, regarding policy.

yes 100%, even used a tube to make sure where its coming from , after playing game for awhile it aint as bad as the coolermaster, its a constant slight buzzing, but should i have to live with it, after all this supposed to be high end and costs a lot

Having the same with a corsair rm1000i and a 980ti.

Definitely the PSU. Like you I'm not sure whether to live with it or roll the dice on a replacement. It's not overly audible whilst gaming but, as you've said, this is a chunk of money so you don't expect this sort of issue.

I think it's a lottery tbh - especially with a 980ti and their mental amperage requirements. It does seem to be the 980ti that is always the common denominator in reports.

Seems PSU's are up there with monitors these days in poor quality at the high end. I've read reports of similar from evga (so includes the super flower platforms) as well.

its definitely the graphics card causing it , its strange how it can do it,

been testing all weekend taking each one out , was tedious, but gonna stick with the Corsair PSU

i have tried coolermaster silent pro 850w, which is 5 years old , was from old build, made the loudest whine when gaming

i tried Corsair HXi Series HX1000i , which also does it but much lower, also tried a EVGA SuperNova G2 850w , its about the same as the Corsair, its only a slight buzz so not bad. once start playing games, the fans spin up so then cant hear it, even with sound muted i have to listen carefully to hear it, once with sound on cant hear it at all so i guess i can live with it, could sell card and get another brand, but card overclocks well, 1500mhz boost and fans dont go past 60% so its good noise levels, and i dont wanna waste anymore money, stuck with 2 PSU's to sell now

Does the sound get louder when you scroll with the mouse? If it does something I have seen work on other forums is to increase the volume to max in windows and then adjust the volume to suit you on the speakers. I has a AMD 5850 that screamed when overclocked and doing this reduced it a lot. It may or may not work but I suppose it's worth a try.

only slight coil whine when gaming, and thats drawn out with fans and game sound

So it was the GPU? In that case you could try to RMA, I'm not sure on the policy though. For such an expensive card, as you said I'd expect better and a suitable (no coil whine) replacement.

the coil whine aint coming from the GPU at all, its coming from the PSU when gaming, but its the GPU thats causing the PSU to Coil whine

it aint that bad , its slight buzz when gaming, and then when fans spin up and sound is on, cant hear it,

could get it sorted , get another brand GPU which should sort it, it aint that bad so gonna live with it

Another common cause of PSU's whining is very high FPS, such as can be heard on many decent PSUs when running stuff like Kombustor. What FPS are you seeing when the noise occurs? You could choose a limit between 60-144 and see if there's any difference.

fps doesnt seem to matter, the more demanding the game then will do it, but it aint bad just slight buzz, cant hear it while gaming

metal gear solid phantom pain, is very well optimized , only uses 50% gpu and dont get any coil whine,
