basically same thing as i7 5930K
Hi, this is the first (mild) overclock I plan to actually use, not my first ever try.
Some time ago I saw others who had hit 4.2GHz, so i tried it being no stanger to my bios but a total rookie at overclocking. Eventually I thought it wasnt worth the effort & was about to quit & settle for 3.8ghz. It didnt 'feel' stable and sure enough it crashed usually when messing with cache.
Recently I could no longer tolerate a bad case of coil whine which I knew was down to the cpu & speedstep. so I turned Windows power option to 'Performance mode' and it fixed it, I tried it instead of disabling c-states. I also disabled spread spectrum so I thought I'd attenpt another OC now since I was in the bios. Not sure what to set LLC, kept at auto.
Its stable now- No blue screen was seen that day or any day since.
I havent increased cache at all (just locked @ 30x). I never aimed for 40x but I never seem to get any stable improvement.
But I think the scores are pretty decent for this speed from previous tests. I know it can be even better with cache but thats where im stuck.
