Occasional audio distortion

I have this annoying problem listening to music. I don’t play many games these days, but I suspect the problem would also happen during gaming.

Audio is Realtek ALC892 on motherboard connected to speakers via analogue jack.

Whilst listening to music from mixcloud.com via firefox I sometimes get 100ms of distortion a few times an hour. I put this down to firefox, but noticed it also playing mp3 with winamp. Even with winamp set to ‘real priority’ via taskmanger it still happens (though less).

I would also say when the distortion happens any USB mouse movement stutters.
Just the typical productivity tools open, Firefox, Chrome, Skype, Excel, Outlook.

It quite often occurs during web browsing as pages are opened. CPU is very low (looking at taskmanger icon in the system tray).
Just ran prime95 for 2 minutes 100% load, no distortion. After stopping the workers 1 second later got 100ms of distortion. Repeated same test twice, all was ok.

I’ve tried latest audio drivers from Gigabyte (2015) and Realtek (2017)

Rig: Windows 10, 32gig ram, i5-4570 (3.2ghz), Sandisk 480 Ultra II SSD (os, and swap on separate partition), GA-Z87MX-D3H, Radeon 7900 , MS Defender (no other virus checker)

All drivers up to date

Appreciate if anyone got any ideas?
