Occasional event id 11, but no issues.

Sometimes when I plug a usb storage device into one of the front usb ports I got a log entry for error 11 which is

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk7\DR8

That's the usb storage (because of other devices plugged in, 7 is always the first usb storage device).

I'd like to say it only does it on the front, but I can't be 100% sure, as it doesn't do it all the time and I don't really plug much in/out around the back. The only thing I do is a usb3 hdd and occasionally my usb 3 stick (front ports are 2) & while it's never logged it for those, I also don't use it them that often, so could just be luck.

Anyway, it's always in groups of 4 and always when you plug it in (I literally mean, when you first plug it in, not just it being plugged in, if the log id appears it will be then).

Thing is, it doesn't cause any issues. The usb device appears as it should, you don't have to unplug/plug back in, it only makes the one sound (that windows sound for something being plugged in, so it's not quickly connecting/disconnecting). It works absolutely fine. 0 difference in the time in takes to pick up the drive between when it leaves the log and when it does not. Everything works as it should, transfer speeds are fine, no read/write errors etc.

If you didn't look in the event viewer, by behaviour, you would not know.

I don't suppose it matters, but I have plenty of things plugged in around the back (controller wireless receiver, card reader, mouse etc) and never any issues with them (disconnects etc), so pretty sure nothing wrong hardware wise.

Any ideas? Ports on the front are quite worn (old case), just windows and x99 being fussy for some reason?

Doesn't cause any issue, but would be nice if I could work out why.

Thanks.

I suggest you do this and seriously consider re-evaluating the priorities in your life. Event viewer is a tool to be used when something is wrong. Find something a bit more interesting to do with your time.

Yeah, I should take note from you and just spend my time making unhelpful posts on forums right?

I only noticed because I was dealing with firefox, and thought I'd see if any of the "experts" here had an idea.

You could just ignore the post if you have nothing helpful, maybe take your own advice and find something more interesting to do with your time.

If you can't see how unreasonable you are being, there is no helping you.

I just picked a random critical error from my event log...

From this, it looks like the software/driver for my wireless network adapter crashed. Since I've not had any issues actually using the internet, why would I waste a single second of my time researching it? No doubt you'd be in fits over this.

Unfortunately, replying to threads like this is interesting to me but perhaps I shouldn't be so selfish and I should try and ignore more in future.

run check disk on the HDD for any bad sectors or try another USB cable if possible.

maybe try HD tune or something in windows that can check the HDD over

Yeah, asking a question, how unreasonable.

Yeah, because a single post = in fits over something.

Yeah, you should, might let you find something better to do with your time.
