OK so im tinkering with my notebook and want to see if i can get some more speed from my radeon 5650m, easy? no!

currently have the 10.6 drivers installed with ccc. first problem is i cannot for the life of me find the overdrive option.

ive installed GPUTool, AMD glu clock tool, ATITray and ATItool but none seem to detect any of the default clocks (as though the GPU isnt there) except AMD clock tool which find something with a clock of 100 core / 250 mem.

ATItool also displays a ''Kernel mode driver not running'' message.

really starting to get frustrated, theres post on google about similar problems but no one seems to explain how they solved the issues.

running a Dell studio, windows 7, i5 520m, ati 5650m 1g, 4gig ram.

cheers

i've taken a snippet from an article i've seen so credit goes to them, it's for a 4570 but the principle is the same.

In overclocking a laptop GPU, you do need a programme called RivaTuner and another software utility called GPU-Z. Download RivaTuner and install it onto your laptop but don't run it yet. Fireup GPU-Z and look at the Device ID which you could find it in the middle of the 'Graphic Card' tab. It should look something like this - '1002-xxxx'.

We are just interested with the 'xxxx' part. Now, get into the installation folder of RivaTuner and open a file called rivatuner.cfg. You need to use notepad to open it. Once you have opened the file, look under the heading of [1002], you will see a line of command which starts with RV710. RV710 is the chipset for your HD4570. At the end of the line, just add the device ID plus 'h' at the back of it...It goes like this - 'xxxxh'. Save the *.cfg file and then fire up RivaTuner.
The rest is up to you guys!!! Happy overclocking!!!
