Hi all, this is my first post on this forum and i think it may be a biggie ;), reading some of the other forums and the ocing guides everyone here seems pretty cool so hoping you can help me out a bit! :D

Ok, so.. i have a fairly old system and wanna try and squeeze as much juice outta the pro as i can so i can run GTA4 and other top end games more smoothly, specs are;

AMD Athlon 64 4200+ X2 (stock 2.2 ghz), with Zalaman after market cooler,
2gb Crucial RAM at 3-3-3-8 on 2T (DDR, Dual Channel, 2x 1gb sticks)
Asus A8N SLi Mobo
Ati HD4850 (few days old )
2x SATA HDDs
Enermax 500w Liberty PSU

I've read LOADS on overclocking and understand it as basically lowering the RAM speed and then seeing how far you can push the CPU, then returning the CPU speed to default and finding how far you can push the RAM and then getting a balance that gives the fastest FSB speed. Is that it in a nutshell?

I've worked up to the following settings:

Lowering the RAM timing to 333mhz
CPU freq at 250 mhz
HTT at x3
DDR voltage (Vdimm) at 2.6 (default)
CPU Multiplier at x9
Vcore at 1.3625 (default)
And PCI clock locked ar 33.33

I then boot and run Hyper Pi and then Prime 95 max heat for 20 mins to make sure its stable before continuing any more.

Secondly...on a side note, after returning bios to normal i've played about with the ASUS AI overclocker, got it at +10% and checked cpuz;

Clock speed 2420mhz
vcore @ 1.36
mulitplier x11
Bus speed 220
HT Link 1100
DRAM Freq @ 220
FSB/DRAM CPU/11
RAM timings (@400) are 3-3-3-8-16-2t-16

I know the ram timings are quite sloppy but i played gta for 2 hours without a hitch under these settings, i was wondering - if i just turn the ddr down (333, making a 5/6 ratio i believe) and push the CPU freq up to around 250+ i can keep the ram speed down but get a sweet CPU speed!! Please let me know your opinions!

Wasn't all that big, Cheers all!! :D

Thats ok mate, least you had a look! :D

Had it up to 2.6 ghz stable, but when i push for 2.7 i run prime 95 and it hangs the comps, mouse and everything, the memory is underclocked atm so its not that, i think it may be the vcore, it was at 1.36 so i bumped it up twice to 1.4 and it still hung, don't really wanna push it more than that though.

Any thoughts?

core idles between 25c and 30c @ 2640 mhz, and around 50c @ load.
