OCing using OC Guru?

Hey guys I'm new to overclocking....and this forum. I've got a Q6600 I'd like to get to 3ghz+, I've got a nice heatsink and fan. I'm using OC Guru, a windows program which came with my new Abit mobo: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-143-AB

I know about the external clock and multiplier but nothing about VCore. What should I set Vcore at if I'm looking for 3-3.2ghz?

Thanks for any help

ps: For some reason the mobo has clocked my cpu @ 1.8ghz (200x9), not sure why. Cpu - z says the core voltage is 1.27

frstly dont use any software based things to OC they just lead to problems and you cant normally get much out of them anyway
Read the stickies at the front of the OC section and do it yourself in BIOS, you can always come back and ask if you're not sure on anything

No no no, use the BIOS. Pretty sure you will reach 3GHz with that CPU and motherboard. Once you have it set up, all you have to do each day is turn the PC and it's running at 3GHz.

Definitely use the BIOS for any and all o/c activities. Not least because software based o/c-ing requires re-setting at each boot, whereas BIOS clocking will be permanent.

ok I'll use the bios.

I am very puzzled though. I used to have the same cpu a while back and just straight upped the fsb to 333 within the first day...no change to the vcore and it was fine til I sold it.

Now the fsb is 200 out the box, I put it up to 233 without any vcore changes and it crashed within 10 mins.

I just then had the fsb at 333 and vcore at 1.37 (quite high no?) and it crashed after 30 mins.

multiplier x9 on all btw

welli cant remember exactly what mine was at stock, but i know it uses a x9 multiplier, and 266 * 9 = 2396, which would be 2.4gig, so cant see how it can be unstable at stock speeds

are u altering the ram ratio after u enter the higher fsb?
if u got after market cooler u should get 3ghx+ with that cpu. just. make sure ur ram is at its right speed after changing fsb and u should be good to go
